Obehi Okojie is a Board-Certified Pediatrician & certified Parent Coach.
I am originally from Maryland where I went to college. After graduating from George Washington University with a master's in public health, I went to medical school at Ohio University and completed a Pediatric residency in Kansas City. I now live and work in South Central Minnesota with my family.
Majoring in biology in college, I have always been fascinated by the human body. I believe the body has the ability to heal itself, at times there are things in its way hindering it from doing so or it may need a little boost. I find out what the body needs to heal and remove what is in the way or add what is necessary to cause transformation. Then I get out of the way and watch it work.
I employ several modalities of medicine. In addition to traditional medicine, I am trained in: hypnosis, acupuncture, osteopathic manipulation and I am a certified Parent Coach. Through all these modalities, I transform people's lives. I free people from being held back by a diagnosis or limiting belief; taking them from where they are to where they have always dreamed of being.
The mind is even more powerful than the body; sometimes it just needs training. In my coaching program, I teach Parents resiliency and how to be unfazed by their child's emotions. Parents will also learn how to teach their child to self-soothe and mitigate or avoid temper-tantrums. Together I help families move from survival mode to thriving. I transform chaos to calm.
It All Started When I realized Parents were struggling at home and I did not know how to help...
The second most common thing I see in my practice (behind upper respiratory infections) are behavioral complaints. In my training we did not do a deep dive into this topic, and I was less than helpful. So, I got trained. Now certified in the Mad to Glad blueprint, I help Parents reclaim peace, power and freedom in their home and help families restore their relationship.
Having a strong-willed child myself who is currently 2yo, I employ these tools daily. It has been invaluable to be able to be there for my child without getting stressed, triggered or reactive. I feel proud to be able to help my child navigate through his feelings, teach him how to regulate his emotions and use his words like a big boy.
My child can be intense...
He has thrown temper tantrums where he has tried to test my will for an hour(s) because I asked him to say please or it's bed time or meal time. He will say, "I said NO" and then demand milk. When he wakes up from his daily nap usually the first word he says is 'No'. If he gets hangry? He is another person entirely. He falls off a cliff behaviorally and there is little we can do at that point to bring him back to sanity, other than feed him.
However, I can proudly say we are not limited by his moods....
We don't hesitate to take him out anywhere we go, in fact it's fun. We do not feel guilty leaving him with other caretakers if we are busy or out of town even for a number of days. We do not just tolerate his behaviors or drop him off and dash hoping the sitter doesn't quit. He is well behaved.
He has his pain points, we know what they are. We are able to help him navigate them. When we are not able to (which can happen with a 2 yo) we do not get bothered, we have a lot of capacity for what he has to offer, we consider this is all part of what Parenting looks like. That did not happen overnight. It was a journey.
I will help you get there.
In my six month 1:1 coaching program, we walk through the 8 pillars of the Mad to Glad blueprint which teaches you how to help your child self soothe when they are upset or avoid getting upset altogether. I look at labs to make sure your child is not missing necessary nutrients that can alter mood. Finally, I work with you - the Parent - on how to increase your capacity to deal with your child's moods. We do a lot of deep work to find the trigger buttons that your child keeps pushing and deactivate them. As a result, no matter what your child is doing you stay calm and collected, preventing yourself from escalating.
What would it be like to not be flustered, to not be overwhelmed, to have time for you? Together we will transform your household -- restore your peace, power, freedom and confidence as a Parent.
